A rapist who filmed assaults and exploitation of a woman has been warned he faced a lengthy jail sentence today.

Jason Toms recorded some of the attacks and rapes he perpetrated on the victim at houses in Perth.

During the assaults Toms, 42, made threats and restrained the woman and got her to take part in sex acts with others.

Graphic footage that was recovered was shown to jurors at Toms trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

He was found guilty of raping the woman between December 2010 and September 2016 at three different addresses and on some occasions making a video record of the assaults.

A judge told Toms: "These are serious offences and I have no doubt a significant custodial sentence is to be the only appropriate punishment."

Lord Tyre told jurors: "It has been a difficult trial and it has been a distressing one."

"It has not been an easy task or a pleasant task to listen to the evidence in this case," said the judge

Toms, a prisoner in Perth, was also found guilty of assaulting the 36-year-old woman at houses in the city on an occasion between November 2010 and January the following year and in December 2012.

On the first occasion he pushed her, pinned her to the floor and repeatedly punched her on the head.

During the second attack he grabbed her by the throat, restricting her breathing and pinned her against a wall.

Toms, who has previous convictions for assault and was jailed for drugs, was also found guilty of assaulting two other women, one of whom he attacked in a ward at Perth Royal Infirmary.

The 37-year-old told the court that after her experience at the hands of Toms she had no confidence left.

The woman said she ended up in hospital after an asthma attack. She said she was really unwell and was given oxygen.

She said: "He grabbed me by the face while I was on oxygen. I just remember him grabbing me by the face and shouting at me."

Toms told the police that he did not lay a hand on her but the woman told advocate depute Paul Kearney: "He is a liar. He knows exactly what he did."

He also attacked the woman at addresses in Scone, in Perthshire, and Newburgh, in Fife, during the period between December 2008 and July 2010 when she was threatened, grabbed by the throat and pinned against a wall.

He was also convicted of attacking a second woman at a house in Perth last year who he dragged by the hair and punched and kicked.

Toms was acquitted of a further five rape charges at the end of his trial.

He was placed on the sex offenders' register and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing next month.
