Man charged over death of Kane Morris
A man has been charged with the murder of tragic 10-year-old Kane Morris and the attempted murder of a girl found seriously hurt in house where Kane was found dead.
The 37-year-old man is expected to appear at Perth Sheriff Court today, police said last night.
Kane was found dead at a property in Union Street, Coupar Angus, Perthshire, around 2.30am on Sunday November 11.
An eight-year-old girl was found critically injured at the same property.
The man now faces charges of murdering Kane and attempting to murder the girl.
He was arrested close to the property shortly after police arrived but it is understood he has not yet been fit to appear in court after he suffered severe injuries in an apparent fall from a second floor window at the flat.
The girl remains in hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Detective Inspector Ross Fitzgerald, from Police Scotland's Major Investigation Team, said: "I can now confirm that a 37 year old man has been charged in connection with the murder of Kane and the attempted murder of an 8 year old girl, who is still receiving treatment in hospital.
"Our thoughts are with them. I would again like to thank local residents of Coupar Angus for their understanding whilst enquiries have been carried out."
Floral tributes and teddy bears were left in tribute to Kane as his classmates returned to Coupar Angus Primary School after the weekend.
A bunch of roses and lilies were laid with a handwritten note that read: "To Kane. I will remember you and I miss you."
One of his former teachers said: "He had a wicked sense of humour - he was such a funny, happy little boy.
"I only taught him for a short time but he just stands out so much - he was the kind of boy that made a mark on you.
"It is so horrible to think he's gone."
Another of his former teachers told Radio Tay News: "One of the keenest pupils was Kane.
"He was just so full of life and keen to learn and there was always a mischievous smile on his face.
"And he really did love life. He lived it to the most and he was such an eager, keen little boy."
Friends, family and members of the wider community paid tribute to Kane on social media, with dozens changing their profile pictures to an image of two burning candles to represent the two children.
