A woman was tonight fighting for her life after she was the victim of an alleged murder bid.
The 50-year-old woman, named locally as Elizabeth Bowe, was discovered by cops around 9pm on Saturday at a flat in the Fife town's Bobby Jones Place.
She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee where she remains in a serious condition.
Today Charles Gordon appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm.
During a brief private appearance on petition he made no plea or declaration and had his case continued for further examination.
Gordon, 51, of St Andrews, was remanded in custody ahead of a further appearance next week.
A probe was launched by the Police Scotland Major Investigation Team after Miss Bowe was found badly hurt.
They later arrested a 51-year-old man, who will appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court later.
Locals said scenes of crime officers in white suits had been seen entering a property in the street to conduct an examination.
A single police car remained outside the building tonight.
One said: "They have been here over the weekend - there's been a solid presence for a couple of days.
"There were a few of them in the white suits taking things in and out.
"It looks really serious."
Detective Inspector Rory Hamilton, from the Major Investigation Team, confirmed: "Local officers discovered the 50-year-old at around 9pm on Saturday, September 17.
"A subsequent investigation led by detectives from the MIT has resulted in the arrest of a male in connection with this incident and he is scheduled to appear from custody before Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court."
