Police say a 60-year-old man has been attacked for no reason while on his way home in Arbroath.

He was approached by three other men - described all as being aged between 18-23 with local accents - on Seaton Road at around 11.50pm on Monday.

Officers have also said they attempted to rob him.

The victim didn't require hospital treatment, despite being assaulted.

The three suspects are described as all being men aged between 18-23, between 5ft 9 and 5ft 10 in height, wearing dark hoodies with the hoods up.

Detective Constable Greg Dempster said: “This is completely unacceptable, a man on his way home has been attacked for no reason.

"It’s imperative we trace the men responsible.

Did you see a red coloured hatchback car?

“I would ask anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think back and consider if they noticed anything suspicious, or may have seen a red coloured hatchback car in the area, as it may assist our enquiries.

"In particular, if anyone has a dash cam device, please check your footage as it could hold images which would assist in identifying those responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 4185 of 6 February, 2023. Alternatively, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can remain anonymous.
