Major probe as man dies in custody at Fife police station

The 36-year-old was found dead after being arrested the day before

A MAJOR investigation is underway after a man died in police custody in Fife.

The 36-year-old was arrested on Thursday in Kirkcaldy and was found dead the following morning.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is particularly interested in what happened when he was detained.

A statement reads: “We are investigating the death in custody of a 36-year-old man at Kirkcaldy Police Station on 18 September 2020.

“The investigation will focus on the circumstances leading up to the man’s death.

“The matter was referred to us by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report will be sent to them in due course.”

Police Scotland say they will fully comply with the probe.
