Planning application has been submitted for a major new leisure development in Dundee, which could see 250 jobs created in the city.

Developers want to built it next to the to the city centre and Waterfront development, and close to the University quarter.

The Plans include a multiplex cinema, restaurants and cafes as well as bringing new, high quality apartments, hotel and a public car park.

Development firm, Crucible Alba Group is looking to house the 'Greenmarket Leisure Quarter' at the currently vacant brownfield site to the west of the Overgate Centre.

Development Director Michael Smart said: “Greenmarket Leisure Quarter is a fantastic opportunity to regenerate a long term vacant site; to extend the buzz of Dundee City Centre and put the final piece in the jigsaw connecting the city centre to the new Waterfront regeneration area.

“Discussions are ongoing with a number of big name cinema operators and restaurant companies and an announcement on these will be made shortly”

He added: “The Greenmarket Leisure Quarter proposals create a leisure destination including a state of the art 9 screen cinema, restaurants and cafes, a hotel, residential accommodation and a public car park.

“The plans complement Dundee City Council’s ambitions for the Dundee Waterfront regeneration and will provide an important link between the existing retail city centre offering and the Dundee Waterfront development including the new V & A Museum.”

If successful, it is proposed that work on the new development would start in early 2019.
