Locals protest as Angus Council plans recycling centre closures

Campaigners are protesting this afternoon as councillors discuss plans to close 4 recycling centres.

A protest against planned cuts to recycling centres in Angus is to take place later.

Angus Council will consider plans to save over £250,000 by cutting the number of centres across the area from seven to three in order to help balance the books.

Sites in Monifieth, Carnoustie, Brechin and Forfar are being earmarked for closure and the plans will be discussed at a meeting of Angus Council’s Communities Committee Tuesday afternoon.

Campaigners against the plans have started an online petition which has already received over two thousand signatures in a few days.

They plan to protest outside Forfar Town Hall later, where the committee meeting is taking place.
