Plans to install life saving equipment inside two telephone boxes in Cupar could be given the green light this week.

Councillors want to install defribillators inside the red kiosks - which were scrapped by BT.

It would leave the town with seven public kits.

Local councillor Tony Miklinski has given his backing to the idea.

"Phone boxes have otherwise been removed by BT. They're iconic and by putting defibs in them we would be making good use and keeping the iconic look of the phone boxes, so it's a win win," he said.

"Everybody wants to have a defib available to them obviously for health reasons, especially as more people are growing older.

"To be able to do it an attractive site that's already got power attached, it really goes down well."

The idea will be raised in a council meeting on thursday, with a ÂŁ4,500 funding required to make it a reality.

ÂŁ500 of this will be provided by the community council.

"If the community council's didn't take them on they would be demolished," added Cllr Miklinski.

"This is a way of keeping them, it's like the letter box. People still identify with that era and these icons."
