Former Dundee Utd boss Alex Smith to retire from football

Former Dundee Utd manager Alex Smith is to retire at the age of 78.

He's been Falkirk's Technical Director since 2009 and will be honoured during the club's final league game of the season.

After that he's planning to emigrate to Australia to join his family.

Smith has enjoyed an incredible career spanning 5 decades, that has also seen him manage the likes of Aberdeen and St Mirren.

He was recently named the oldest manager in Europe when he took charge of Falkirk on an interim basis following the departure of former boss Peter Houston.

In 2016 he was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

He also holds the feat of managing every Scottish National Team age group up to and including the former B team.
