A Dundee supermarket says it's been forced to ban schoolchildren from the store during lunchtimes, after staff suffered physical and verbal abuse.

Workers at the ASDA store in Kirkton said they no longer felt safe coming into work after being, racially abused, assaulted and spat on by children over the last few weeks.

They have now taken the decision to ban schoolchildren from the store during lunchtimes, from 20th of June.

ASDA say they'll revisit the situation after the summer holidays.

The store told Tay News that conversations with local schools and the police were ongoing surrounding the issues.

An Asda spokesperson: "We have made the decision not to allow schoolchildren into the Dundee Kirkton store at lunchtime following several cases of physical and verbal abuse towards our colleagues.

"We have also spoken to the police and local schools about this decision and will review the situation again after the summer holidays.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Tuesday 21 June, officers attended the Kirton store, however there were no issues and no further police action was required.”
