Kinross Businesses Struggling Due to High Street Closure
Kinross High street is getting a whole new look with the council upgrading the roads in the town - but some businesses are struggling with the closure.
The work's expected to take 9 weeks - then the next section of road will be shut down to make way for diggers in the next phase.
Some businesses are reporting almost a 50% cut in takings, with 30% less customers. They argue that the road looks closed to shoppers, so they simply don't go into the shops in the high street.
There is alternative parking available though, and some businesses, like butcher Hunters of Kinross are offering a delivery service for customers who can't make it into town because of the works.
Perth and Kinross Council said: "We are currently undertaking essential environmental improvement works on Kinross High Street to support Kinross's vibrant town centre and to encourage further private investment in the area.
As with all works of this nature, it is inevitable that there will be some disruption throughout the upgrade and we apologise for the inconvenience that this causes in the short term."
Local butcher Ian Hunter's telling Tay News he doesn't begrudge the work being done, but wishes the council made maps of the work and alternative parking more widely available for locals:
