Human remains have been found near a golf course in St Andrews.

Officers made the discovery on Sunday night, with work to identify who's it is and how it got there ongoing.

It's understood there'll be no further searches in the area surrounding Castle Golf Club, with officers handing the single bone over to forensic experts.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.30 pm on Sunday, 4 April, 2021 police received a report of what appeared to be a human bone found near to Castle Golf Club, St Andrews.

"Officers are working with relevant partners to establish the full circumstances of the discovery and to determine the exact age of the bone."
