Have NHS Tayside's mental health services improved?

A grassroots survey is being rolled out today to find out what's changed in the region following a damning independent review last February

People in Tayside are being urged to give their views on mental health services in the region, nearly a year on from a damning independent review.

David Strang's report raised a culture of "fear and blame" among staff.

Now a group of community services have put together a survey in a bid to find out what's changed.

Susan Scott, manager of PLUS Perth said: “A year has passed since Dr Strang’s made his recommendations, and now the final draft of the Tayside Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 'Living Life Well' has been published, it is time to ask people ‘on the ground’ how things are going.

"They haven't been able to have a voice so there's definitely a lot of people out there who haven't been able to say what their experience has been.

"The people who have put this together are families who have maybe lost people to suicide, people who have used mental health services themselves.

"It's basically a very grassroots survey."

The survey has been put together by a collaboration, which includes PLUS Perth and Angus Voice and members of the Stakeholder Participation Group (SPG).

The SPG has been integral to the findings of Dr David Strang’s inquiry report, and is held in high regard as an influential forum by Scottish Government ministers.

The findings will inform Dr Strang's research when he returns to Tayside in the spring to carry out a review.

The closing date for the survey is 11 April. It can be completed online at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PLY27R5
