A long awaited community hub in Monifieth will be built despite potential contamination at the site.

Councillors gave the green light to the plans this morning - which include a modern pavilion and fitness facilities.

Unknown materials underneath the ground at Riverview Park were deemed low risk, a decision councillor Beth Whiteside has welcomed

"I don't think there's any great risk in things preventing the build from going ahead and I'm very confident we'll see things moving in the near future," she said.

"There's been a such a lot of effort that's gone into this. We shouldn't underestimate how much hard work its taken by the MCRG (Monifieth Community Resoiurce Group) and it's a long awaited hub for the town centre.

"It will be absolutely fabulous."

The hub will include a modern pavillion and fitness facilties.

It's believed the centre would be open seeven days a week from 9am to 9pm - but these may be extended if necessary
