Grand Theft Auto maker's have not paid UK corporate tax in last decade
Rockstar North - which created the game in Dundee - has not payed tax on its profits despite making billions - according to think tank TaxWatch
The makers of Grand Theft Auto have avoided paying UK corporation tax despite benefitting from tens of millions in government funding.
Rockstar North - which created the game in Dundee - has not payed tax on its profits over the last decade - according to think tank TaxWatch.
It claimed £42 million in tax credits from the government over the last three years.
George Turner carried out the research - he says it's not a legal issue but a moral one....
"I do really question as to whether they really needed that. Given that a lot of that is meant to be going to smaller producers and encouraging smaller businesses, that was the intention of the government at the time," he said.
The company has made an estimated $5 billion operating profit since its launch of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013.
Mr Turner said it's able to avoid severe penalties due to how it allocates its profit.
"The current structure would seem to suggest that they think the appropriate distribution of that is 100% to the managers and publishers and practically nothing to the developers.
"If you started to shift that the other way then you would start to see significant corporation tax bills.
"It's difficult to estimate what figure this could be but it wouldn't be surprising at all if it was in the tens of millions of pounds."
