Glasgow Lorry Crash Response Due Next Month
The Crown Office is expected to respond to a police report into the fatal bin lorry crash in Glasgow by the end of February, Scotland's Justice Secretary Michael Matheson has told Holyrood.
A Police Scotland report into the incident will be submitted by the end of this month, with the Crown Office providing details of the timescale of any further investigations by the end of next month, MSPs heard.
Six people were killed and 10 more injured when the lorry lost control in the city's Queen Street and George Square on December 22.
A full police investigation into the incident began immediately, with interim reports sent to the Crown Office on December 24 and 28.
A further report on the emerging findings of the situation is due to be submitted by Police Scotland to the Crown Office by the end of January,'' Mr Matheson said.
The Crown Office must wait for all of the necessary inquiries to be completed before it can come to a final decision.
I have been advised that the Crown will consider that report, and by the end of February will provide further details as to the timescale for any further investigations that may be required.''
Any decision on whether to hold a fatal accident inquiry is a matter for the Lord Advocate, Mr Matheson said.
He also told the chamber that the families of those killed in the crash will be advised on the progress of the investigation.
