Glasgow has been shortlisted as one of two cities in the battle to host next year's Eurovision Song Contest.

It will go head to head with Liverpool to welcome the world for the singing competition on behalf of this year's winners, Ukraine.

Organisers decided earlier this year that it can't take place there because of the ongoing war with Russia.

Eurovision super fan Adam Robinson told Tay FM: "Everything is within walking distance here in our city which makes it the perfect location.

"Once you leave the OVO Hydro it is so easy to get back to your hotel or go onto the next club or bar.

"Glasgow is also full of friendly people who are ready to bring the world to our doorstep while remembering this is Ukraine's contest and we are celebrating on their behalf."

"Glasgow has an unrivalled track-record for successfully hosting major global events."

The announcement means Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Newcastle have lost out on the opportunity to host the singing contest.

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “We’re excited that Glasgow has made it to the final two cities in the running to host Eurovision and a celebration of Ukraine next year.

“The competition has been very strong, but Glasgow has an unrivalled track-record for successfully hosting major global events.

“Between that experience and expertise; our famous live music scene, and one of the world’s top entertainment venues in the OVO Hydro – Glasgow has everything it takes to host a show that the whole Eurovision family can be proud of.”

Culture Minister Neil Gray said: “We are delighted that Glasgow has made the final selection to host the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest.

“The Scottish Government will continue to engage with Glasgow council as they progress their final bid.”
