Police believe the same group of opportunistic thieves may have targeted sheds and garages across Angus.

Buildings in Auchterhouse, Queen's Drive in Arbroath, and also in Duntrune were discovered to have been broken into or attempts made on them overnight into Friday 5th January.

Secondly, a further number of sheds and garages were found to have been broken into or attempts made on them into 6th January, these being in Hospital Road Montrose, and six in Slade Road, Kirriemuir.

In each of the instances where entry was gained, gardening and construction equipment were stolen.

Although the incidents are across a wide area and over two nights, officers believe they could potentially be linked.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said:

“We would like to remind everyone who has a shed, garage or outhouse to check the security of them. While nothing can be made 100% secure, and certainly the properties involved in these incidents were indeed all secured, the harder you make it for a would-be thief to gain entry and try to steal your property, the less likely they are to make the effort to do so.

“If you have any information which could help our enquiries, please call 101 or speak to any Police officer. Also, information can be given anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111."
