A 40-year-old man has died after police were called to an incident in the Scottish Borders last night (Friday).

Emergency services rushed to an address in Galashiels shortly after 6pm.

Officers say a 38-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident, at a property in Chris Paterson Place, and enquiries are ongoing.

Police have today (Saturday) been carrying out door-to-door enquiries at the edge of town development, which was named after the former Scotland rugby star who grew up in Galashiels.

But they say the incident was contained to a property there, and there is no risk to the wider community.

Police are this afternoon standing guard at the back door of a corner property.

Officers have also been seen in a neighbouring street, which leads to a nearby quarry.

“The 40-year-old was taken to Borders General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

“A 38-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

“The incident occurred within a dwelling and officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation. There was no risk to the wider community.”
