St Johnstone left-back Brian Easton faces fresh surgery after a season ruined by a groin problem.

The defender has not played this year and only lasted 45 minutes in an aborted comeback in December following two months out.

Speaking ahead of Saturday's visit of Partick Thistle, manager Tommy Wright said: “Brian Easton has to go back and get another little operation. There is still a bit of tightness after the op that's been done, so that's disappointing.

“We didn't expect him back for this season but obviously that delays it even further. We thought he would be fit to at least train before the end of the season.”

The 30-year-old only made 15 appearances this term and Wright hopes he can return to training at the start of pre-season.

“That's the hope,'' he said. “I know people who have had the injury he has had and it can take a long time to get it exactly right.

“He is seeing the best people he can and they have had a look at it and whatever they use to repair
