A Forfar resident's telling Tay News a town centre blaze was so extensive they could 'feel the heat' from their front door, 300 yards away.

Thick smoke was seen billowing over the town throughout this afternoon, after the former bingo hall on Queen Street caught fire.

Peter Sutherland heard the roof cave in as the flames took hold.

"It was an extensive crash, really, really loud. There's a high section at the east end of the building, it stayed up for much longer, and the firefighters had their hoses trained on it," he said.

"There was a big ventilation hose attached to that, and it obviously pulled the wall down and the whole thing collapsed.

"My wife was standing at the wall near our front door and she could feel the heat from it. We're a good 300 yards away, so it shows the intensity of the heat."

Fire crews were called out just before 2pm, with a number of roads in the town centre sealed off as first responders tackled the flames.

There've been no reported injuries.
