First Minister to open Dundee's major trauma centre
Dundee’s major trauma centre – to treat the most seriously injured patients across Tayside, opens later.
The facility at Ninewells is one of four major trauma centres opening across the country – ensuring that those seriously injured get the best possible care and chances of recovery, no matter where they are.
Backed by a £15.2m Scottish Government investment so far, the new Scottish Trauma Network will also include the Scottish Ambulance Service and existing trauma services.
Further facilities are due to open in Glasgow and Edinburgh giving patients the best specialist treatment and rehabilitation. The centre in Aberdeen was unveiled last month.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will cut the ribbon on the specialist unit this afternoon.
