Fire rips through Dundee's Strathmartine Hospital once again
A fire has ripped through Strathmartine Hospital in Dundee just a month after a similar blaze.
A fire has ripped through Strathmartine Hospital in Dundee.
The blaze engulfed the derelict building on Tuesday evening where fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 7pm.
It comes after another fire was believed to have been started deliberately last month.
Two jets and an aerial rescue pump were used to contain the fire which caused a total collapse of the roof and destruction of the 1st floor of the B-listed building.
The fire engulfed the whole of the roof space and resulted in considerable damage to the derelict building.
The SFRS teams used a thermal imaging camera to confirm there was no hidden fire spread within the building’s structure and left the scene around 10:15pm.
Station Manager Fraser Scott said: “I would like to reiterate that members of the public should not enter derelict premises.
"They are not only extremely dangerous for those who enter them, but also for the fire crews who are called to respond to fires within them.
"These buildings may be structurally unsafe, there may be trip and fall hazards and often there is broken glass and other debris lying around.”
He said the cause of the fire is difficult to identify because of the extent of the damage.
No injuries have been reported.
