A Fife teenager is being praised for performing first aid on a man who was lying unconscious in a pool of blood on Saturday night.

15-year-old Arron Reekie was out with his friends in Kirkcaldy when he was approached by a young boy who had spotted the man.

Speaking to Tay FM he said: "I am a first aider and I always carry a pair of surgical gloves incase I come across incidents like this.

"When I managed to wake him up he was completely calm and he did everything I asked of him.

"He had an injury to the right side of his head."

Arron wants to train to become a paramedic.

Quick thinking Arron spotted a police car at the other side of the road and sent one of his friends to ask for help.

"There was quite a lot of blood and I didn't want to leave the casualty.

"I asked one of my friends to go and speak to an officer and luckily they had a first-aid kit in their car so I managed to dress up the wound while they radioed for an ambulance."

"I dread to think what might have happened"

Arron's passion for helping other people stems from a very young age when he tragically lost his mum at just 8 years old.

He added: "I sometimes wonder if someone was there at the right time then her life could have been saved and that is why I want to know how to help other people.

"If I wasn't there for that man with his serious head injury then I dread to think what might have happened.

"He was lying in a garden, it was dark and it was 10 o'clock at night and nobody knew he was there, but luckily that young boy saw him and grabbed someone to help."

Arron continued: "A head injury is very serious and it could have been worse than it looked.

"The whole situation could have been life changing for the man and the fact I managed to get there in enough time to help him is really rewarding."

"You never know what you are going to come across"

The Kirkcaldy teenager, who wants to go to college or university to train to become a paramedic, thinks everyone should learn some basic first-aid skills which can prove very handy.

"I would urge every human on this earth to take a heart start course which can teach you CPR, the recovery position and basic techniques.

"It is really important because you never know what you are going to come across.

"The feeling you get after helping someone is so rewarding."
