Fans angry as second Dundee clash called off in 10 days
The derby with St Johnstone can't go ahead due to sodden pitch
Dundee’s derby with St Johnstone has been called off after the Dens Park pitch was ruled unplayable due to heavy rain – leaving some fans very unhappy.
It’s the second time in the space of 10 days that the playing surface has been deemed dangerous by the match referee.
On December 23, Aberdeen supporters were left fuming when David Munro postponed the scheduled clash with the Dark Blues less than an hour before kick off.
Today Dundee bosses called for an inspection at 11 am and announced half an hour later that Wllie Collum decided it had failed and the match was off.
A statement reads: “Following the referee's pitch inspection this morning, today's cinch Premiership match with St Johnstone has been postponed.
“Recent rainfall has meant the pitch has become waterlogged and the match has been called off.
“A new date for this fixture will be announced in due course.”
It still provoked some angry responses online from supporters who are complaining that the pitch has not been good enough for some time.
One fan posted: “Last two years our drainage/pitch has been unacceptable. Really need to sort this problem once and for all. Getting embarrassing. It’s hardly a monsoon out there,”
Another said: “Fans all over Tayside already travelling, a very late call-off, a sub-standard pitch, tickets won’t be refunded. It’s hard to think of any ‘industry’ that treats its customers this badly and expects to stay in business. I’ve been to fixtures at Dens before, won’t be coming back.”
