The family of Forfar man Gareth Hicks who died abroad says they face a "waiting game" in a bid to bring him home.

The 32-year-old's body was found by German police last week, after he went missing from a nightclub in Munich in February.

But they now face a race against time to repatriate his body as countries tighten their borders amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A Facebook page called Bringgarethhome has been set up by his loved ones.

An online statement reads: "We have asked to bring Gareth's body home. Although they (German authorities) have now accepted this; It is now a waiting game to see when this can be facilitated due to the ever changing covid situation.

"We were initially told they would be able to fly him home tomorrow or next day if we decided by Wednesday 25th.

"Passengers will take priority on these flights and their baggage. The longer the wait the more the family will be charged for having Gareth's body in the morgue or once again be faced with the agonising option of having his body cremated in Germany . 😥

"We will continue to fund raise until we have an update. Thank you all."

An online crowdfunder has raised nearly £3,000 for the family.
