EXCLUSIVE: Vending machine for homeless to be installed in Dundee

Tay News can reveal the first vending machine for the homeless to be installed in Scotland will be placed in Dundee.

It's been developed by the charity Action Hunger and dispenses a range of products like food, socks and hygiene essentials.

Those in need are given a key card which can be used up to three times a day for a fortnight.

After that the user has to refresh their card.

The first vending machine of its kind has this week opened in Nottingham.

Action Hunger asked potential users what they'd like to see in the devices.

Dr John Doddy from the group said: "Interestingly one of them said I wish there was a book in it, I wish there was a puzzle in it, I wish there was a pen in it because you don't know how boring it is to sit in a doorway for 24 hours.

"Some other people said if you're a woman and you have sanitary needs at 3am what can you do?

"Other people said water, other people said food, other people said gloves, hats socks - so we've tried to put as many of these in as possible.

"Over a period of time we're going to adapt that."
