There are serious concerns over the number of people still dying from suspected drug overdoses in Dundee.

Shocking figures came out earlier this year, showing there were twelve fatalities in the city in January alone, but according to experts, that figure has been steady ever since.

Tay News has been speaking to family members, all of whom have lost a loved one in the last year:

These kind of deaths are thought to be largely down to deadly non-regulated ‘street Valium’ which is making the rounds in the city right now, and when taken with a painkiller called gabapentin, plus methadone, the results can be fatal.

Dave Barrie from recovery charity Addaction Dundee and Angus sees first-hand the devastation caused, and says he sees multiple lives lost through substance misuse each month:

A new Drug and Alcohol Partnership launched in the city last month, to help tackle substance misuse.
