The price of charging electric vehicles in Dundee is set to increase
The new rates will be introduced from February 1st
The cost of charging electric vehicles in Dundee is set to increase from the 1st of February due to rising energy costs.
The city council announced the change which will see two new tariffs implemented. Alongside rising energy costs the council say the change is down to the increased cost of providing rapid chargers and to balance the availability of rapid and fast chargers.
The new tariff for fast chargers, up to 22kW, is 20p per kWh and 25p per kWh for rapid chargers (greater than or equal to 43kW AC or 50kW DC). Despite the new tariffs, connection chargers are unchanged.
A discounted resident tariff of 15p per kWh will be applied to fast chargers from the 1st of April. This tariff remains lower than the charge for non-residents and business users.
Under the new tariff, an average 12kWh charging session on a fast charger will cost a Dundee resident £2.18 and £3.38 on a rapid charger.
Also changing on the 1st of April are car parking rates for electric vehicles which will revert to the normal rate.
A new penalty charge is also being introduced to manage the occupation of charging bays. A £10 overstay charge will be applied to users of rapid chargers if the time exceeds 70 minutes. The same charge will also be applied to fast chargers if the time exceeds 190 minutes. These charges will not be applied in multi-storey car parks where the council say the longer visits can be accommodated.
The council say electric vehicle owners in the city that are registered with them, will be contacted directly to inform them of the changes. They also say that despite the increase of the tariffs, it still costs less to charge an electric vehicle in Dundee than the average local authority in Scotland.
