A council worker has discovered a box with 11 dead puppies at a graveyard in Dundee, an animal welfare charity has said.
The discovery was made at Eastern Cemetery on Arbroath Road in the city on May 4, according to the Scottish SPCA.
Animal experts are still trying to determine how the puppies died and are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.
Scottish SPCA officials appealed for any information about the puppies from the public and are also concerned about the mother's condition as she had carried an unusually large litter.
Inspector Karen Cooper said: "This was a particularly sad find and we're keen to understand the circumstances behind this.
"Eleven puppies were disposed of in total and there are obvious questions around how they've come to be in this state.
"We're currently awaiting results of a post-mortem.
"We're also concerned about the bitch's condition and whether she is receiving the appropriate veterinary care as this is an unusually large litter".
