Elderly Fife man dies days after he was released from hospital after crash

The 69-year-old died at an address in Glenrothes in the early hours of Thursday morning after he sustained minor injuries in a crash on Sunday

An elderly Glenrothes man's died, four days after he was involved in a crash on a single carriageway in the town.

It happened on the A912, just south of the junction leading to the disused Balcanquhal Quarry at around 7.40am on Sunday morning.

A 69-year-old male passenger of a blue Toyota Yaris was taken to hospital with minor injuries but was released and later found dead at a property in Glenrothes the early hours of Thursday morning.

The 71-year-old female driver of the Toyota Yaris was also taken to hospital with minor injuries while a 35-year-old male driver of silver Mercedes Sprinter was uninjured.

Road policing officers are now investigating the circumstances of this incident and are appealing for witnesses to the initial collision.

Police Sergeant Ewan Pearce of Fife Division's Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the gentleman’s family at this time.

“We are now investigating this collision and I would ask anyone who was on A912, near to the disused Balcanquhal Quarry, on Sunday, February 10, and has any information that can assist our inquiries, to please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
