Talks are underway in a bid to bring Ayr striker Lawrence Shankland to Dundee Utd.

Sporting Director Tony Ashgar has confirmed that an offer has been made to representatives of the player who's now a free agent.

Ashgar says “We see Lawrence as a top player and we want him to be part of our Championship challenge and beyond.

“We know Lawrence is very much a player in demand and has a lot of offers elsewhere and we are hopeful things will come to a conclusion, either way, very quickly.”

Shankland scored 34 goals in 40 games last season and found the net 27 times in 32 appearances the campaign before that. His ability to provide assists is also an asset - with 16 last season.

Sunderland, Hull City and Swansea City are among the clubs also being linked with the forward, who has 4 Scotland under 21 caps.
