Amanda Miller, Chair of Court of the University of Dundee has resigned with immediate effect.

Miller notified University chiefs last night of her decision to stand down.

Deputy Chair of Court, Tricia Bey, is set to chair next week's Court meeting.

Budget shortfall

The resignation comes as the institution faces serious financial challenges.

In November, an email was sent by the then principal, Professor Iain Gillespie, warning staff job losses were “inevitable” and that it was facing a potential £30m deficit.

Members of the University and College Union are set to take strike action from next Monday over the deficit and plans to cut jobs.

More staff at the university could soon join them on the picket line as Unison members, including IT, admin, cleaning, security and facilities workers, are being balloted on strike action.

University chiefs are working to bring forward a financial recovery plan.

Updates on financial recovery plan to come

Professor Shane O’Neill, Interim Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said, “Amanda informed us of her decision last night. I thank Amanda for all of her work as Chair of Court.

“Tricia Bey, as Deputy Chair of Court, will chair next week’s Court meeting.

“The Scottish Government and the Scottish Funding Council have been informed this morning.

“We are continuing to work on the financial recovery plan to address the serious challenges facing the University and will have further updates on that work soon.”
