The number of Dundee University students to test positive for coronavirus now stands at 87.

The outbreak started after a flat party took place in the West End just over a week ago.

University bosses say 90 cases have been detected in the community all together - it's not yet clear how many are connected to the original gathering.

An NHS Tayside spokesperson said: “There are now 90 positive cases of COVID-19 associated to students in Dundee.

“Students have been given appropriate advice and contact tracing is continuing with close contacts self-isolating.

“It is extremely important that all students who have been identified as close contacts, and anyone who has been to a gathering from 13 March onwards, or in close contact with someone who has, should book a PCR test as soon as possible.

“I would also urge students who test positive to provide information about all their recent contacts when called by Test and Protect. This information will help our contact tracing efforts to track and limit the spread of the virus.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation closely and are working with our colleagues to ensure there is support in place for students should they need it.”

Students living on Springfield say they feel ‘endangered’ by their neighbours disregard for coronavirus restrictions .

Second year student Lucas Cerha believes the party on his street reflects badly on all of his peers.

"From the start of the pandemic, the guilt was put towards students, and I know this is not going to help," he said.

"Everybody's been putting everything on hold. I do not condone any of the parties but I do understand them.

"We can see so many other people do not care for a single second about the restrictions. It is very annoying."

All students who have mixed with people outside their bubble from 13 March are being told get a test, even if they're asymptomatic.

Pierre Courcier who also lives on Springfield says he's going to get one, even though he's followed the rules.

"We keep seeing the number rising. We feel a bit endangered because the street is quite small, we're a bit worried about it and I'm actually thinking about getting tested," he said.

His flatmate Gregor Alexander fears outbreaks like this could keep them under restrictions for longer.

"We're all planning on leaving in the next two weeks, my roommates are maybe going back to France to see family," he said.

"So that would be worrying, potentially taking it back there."

Elsewhere St Andrews University is working to contain its own spike in cases, with all students being told not to leave town.
