Tay News has been meeting Dundee's Citizen of the Year. 76-year-old Stella Carrington has picked up the prestigious title - which marks outstanding service to the community.

She has been at the forefront of several projects in the city including the Jute Women staute in Lochee. For the last 10 years Stella has been the chairwoman for the Dundee West Communities Association and is well known for her work in the local community. Lord Provost Bob Duncan said: "Stella Carrington stood out amongst this year’s applications. She has spent so many years giving back to her local community without asking for anything in return. “She is an inspiring individual and one who encourages, supports and motivates people to transform where they live. “Stella is an exceptional candidate and a worthy winner.” Each year Dundee City Council seeks out a Citizen of the Year who has provided outstanding service to their community. Judges look for someone who provides selfless service to a voluntary body or the community and who brings distinction and quality to everyday life in Dundee.
