Councillors in Dundee could give the green light to the final stage of plans for a low emissions zone later today.

The scheme would ban older vehicles, diesel cars and buses registered before 2015 from going within the city's inner ring road. The scheme would come into force in three years time.

Councillors will vote on the final stage of plans this evening, following a public consultation 1300 Dundonians who have given their views.

Tay News spoke to City Development convener Mark Flynn who said the scheme takes a big step to improving public health - as well as the environment.

"The environment around the city and around the businesses in the city centre, it will change the actual arena itself, and it will be quite transformation, think about making desirable place to live, invest and visit and learn" he said.

"The final scheme that's being proposed is what they'll be discussing, and following on from previous discussions and previous consultations with about 1300 people participating which is fantastic, and I think it's an important project for what we're trying to do going forward."
