Police treating huge Dundee fire as deliberate
Police have started an inquiry into last nights fire at the former Robertson's furniture store - they believe it was started deliberately
Police in Dundee say they believe a fire at the former Robertson's furniture store in the city centre last night (November 12) was started deliberately.
Fire crews battled the blaze through the night on Barrack Street.
Some residents in Fife have said they could even see the flames from across the Tay.
A number of the surrounding streets will remain closed for some time.
And now officers on the ground say it is being treated as wilful.
Detective Sergeant Stuart Martin, from Dundee CID, said: “This was a reckless and dangerous act of fireraising, which has caused significant damage and disruption to the area.
“We have spoken with a number of witnesses and would appeal for anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist our enquiries.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Operations Control mobilised nine appliances and specialist resources to the scene where firefighters worked throughout the night to extinguish the fire.
“There were no reported casualties.
"Two appliances and specialist resources remain on the scene whilst crews work to make the area safe”.
