Dundee councillor slams banking chiefs ‘inadequate response’ to RBS branch closure
It was announced last month that RBS was planning a series of closures across the country
A Dundee councillor has slammed banking chiefs for what he described as the “inadequate response” to calls to save the RBS Kingsway Circus branch.
It was announced last month that RBS was planning a series of closures across the country, putting more than 100 jobs at risk.
Among the branches earmarked to shut is the longstanding Kingsway Circus location on Strathmartine Road.
Inadequate response slammed
Strathmartine ward councillor Daniel Coleman has been campaigning to save the branch, calling on the banking group to reconsider its decision.
But his pleas have fallen on deaf ears, with banking chiefs writing to him to say they will not be looking to give the branch a stay-of-execution.
Reacting to the letter, councillor Colemans said: “I am hugely disappointed by the way NatWest has simply batted away concerns from elected representatives, its own customers and the local community.
“It is just pathetic excuses from the bank.”
All Dundee councillors will be asked to support opposition to the closure at the forthcoming city governance committee next week.
The branch is set to close its doors to customers on October 8.
Broughty Ferry
The proposed closure of Kingsway Circus comes just five months after the Broughty Ferry RBS branch also shut its doors for good.
Bosses had controversially claimed just six customers were using the branch regularly.
But this was disputed by councillors who accused RBS of “gaming the numbers”
