Dundee City Council: 8% council tax increase on the cards as SNP administration proposals revealed
The local authority will set its budget this afternoon
Dundee residents could face an 8% council tax increase as the administration unveils their budget plans.
The SNP group will present their budget proposals at a special meeting on Thursday, where other political groups will also set out their ideas.
The local authority is looking to plug a multi-million shortfall.
Proposals put forward by the administration include a council tax hike of 8%, which would equate to a £119 increase for those living in Band D.
If given the green light by elected members, the increase would come into effect from April 1.
What else is on the table for the administration budget?
The SNP group also propose to lease floor areas in Dundee House and other buildings across the city on a commercial basis.
The council are seeking to save around £250,000 through additional income from future lease agreements
Money allocated to secondary schools could also be reduced by 1%, saving around £542,000.
Also on the table is scrapping the small skip service.
Proposals from council officers to close school pools are not included in the budget, neither are plans to reduce the frequency of bin collections.
Brought Ferry Castle
Leisure and Culture Dundee (LACD) is set to receive £50,000 to support the continued opening of Broughty Castle, however, this would be on a reduced-hours basis.
This would be a one-off funding investment pending further engagement on the delivery of a future sustainable operating model for this attraction.
The final budget will be set this afternoon.
