A double vaccinated Italian woman studying in St Andrews faces missing her brother's wedding because she got her first jag in England.

Giula Benedetta Calabrese received her second dose in Fife last month.

But NHS Scotland has failed to note her other one, despite her contacting both services to point out the error.

It means she'd have to quarantine if she wants to see her sibling tie the knot in Switzerland next week, something she can't afford to do.

"For my PHD I have experimental work in a lab to carry out so I need to be present in the lab and I can't afford 10 days quarantine," said Ms Calabrese.

"Past month, month and half we've been trying to contact multiple numbers and everyone was saying to try and contact someone else.

"We are fully vaccinated so with the rules changing in the UK for people coming back from amber-list countries, we would hope to be able to avoid quarantine.

"We cannot receive a third one"

"We cannot receive a third one vaccine just to have the two doses in Scotland and receive a certificate."

The 28-year-old received her first dose in a drop-in centre in England, in a bid to get double vaccinated as soon as possible.

Her local MP Wendy Chamberlain believes there is a lack of communication between NHS services north and south of the border.

"We're now in a place where the systems that are helping us come out of this pandemic aren't talking to one another," she said.

I hope it's not an issue for many but clearly, people may be hearing this and thinking that's exactly what I've done, and then be concerned.

"Part of the issue is people are falling between the gaps. It's an issue for both NHS Scotland and NHS England."

What does the Scottish Government say?

A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “We are working at pace to align vaccination records from different nations of the UK and have a process in place for sharing data between England and Scotland.

“We continue to work towards replacing the record of vaccination status with a digital record of Covid Status, which will include vaccination and testing data to be used for outbound international travel. We will contact Ms Chamberlain’s office to see if we can assist with these cases.”
