Dog Rescued From Frozen Arbroath Pond
The dog fell through ice into the water at the weekend.
Fire crews rescued a dog after it fell through ice while chasing a duck across a frozen pond in Arbroath at the weekend. Axes were used to break up the ice before firefighters wading in to rescue the animal on Saturday, which was safely returned to its owners.
Now officers are reminding us not to walk on iced over ponds or rivers and to make sure children and pets are kept well away from them.
Station Manager Fraser Scott said: "We would advise all members of the public to be aware of the dangers of thin ice during the winter season.
"We would advise against walking on the ice and ensure that children and dogs, in particular, are kept well away from any iced over ponds or rivers.
"It's probably safer to keep you dog on a leash when passing any stretch of frozen water."
