DC Thomson staff facing redundancies due to title closures

Staff at Dundee-based publisher DC Thomson are facing redundancies as the company is set to close several titles.
Employees at the newspaper and magazine publisher were told the firm needs to plug a multi-million pound gap in its finances during an all-staff meeting earlier.
The historic publisher owns numerous newspapers including The Courier, The Press and Journal and The Sunday Post.
It also owns well-known magazine titles such as The Beano, Puzzler and The People's Friend.
The organisation has offices across Scotland - in Dundee, Aberdeen and Glasgow.
DC Thomson told Tay News they would not confirm numbers at the moment.
However, Rebecca Miskin, Chief Executive of DC Thomson's media business said the organisation have had to make "difficult decisions" and would be "announcing the closure of some well-loved titles".
Ms Miskin said:
“We have today announced significant changes to our company, which involve the reshaping of our media portfolio and the simplification of the underlying structure.
“These moves are vital to set us up to thrive in the future and to respond to the difficult economic environment we are in."
She added:
“Unfortunately, we have also had to make difficult decisions concerning those brands and activities which sit outside these growth areas.
"We will be announcing the closure of some well-loved titles, as well as the cessation of some commercial activities.
"This will mean losing some valued colleagues, something we deeply regret.”
