Dundee United are optimistic that their match against Celtic on Sunday will go ahead despite damage to Tannadice Park caused by Strom Arwen last weekend.

Reports had previously suggested that the cinch Premiership match was in jeopardy as United attempted to carry out the repairs needed to meet health and safety regulations in time.

The club released a statement on Monday conforming the damage to one of the stands, saying: "Following Friday night's Storm Arwen, we can confirm parts of the Jerry Kerr Stand roof were damaged. As a result Dundee City Council closed the road outside.

"Assessment of damage and restoration will begin today and is expected to last a few days."

It is understood that Dundee United are confident that enough repairs will have taken place to allow the televised clash with the Glasgow club to go ahead. A further statement from the club is expected later today.
