An 84-year-old man has been ordered to appear in court after claiming his artificial knees caused him to crash into a parked car.
John Wilkins lost control of his car after his replacement knees "locked" and he shot forward into the car parked at the side of the road.
The pensioner then drove off from the scene without leaving his details and he was subsequently arrested by the police.
Wilkins, from Crieff, admitted driving carelessly, failing to keep proper control of his Suzuki Swift and crashing into a parked car.
He admitted damaging the parked Toyota Auris and failing to stop and give his name and address in Sauchie Road, Crieff, on 4th August this year.
Justice of the Peace Christine Grant noted that Wilkins had sent a letter to the court explaining that his joints had played a vital role in the accident.
In his letter pleading guilty at Perth's JP Court, Wilkins said: "The reason for the accident was that both knees are man-made joints that are past their sell-by date and which cannot be replaced.
"On occasion they lock in the way that I move them." Mrs Grant said: "I will defer sentence for a personal appearance by Mr Wilkins."
