Community devastated by Mill o' Mains fire
It happened last night - the building's roof couldn't be saved
Community groups in the North of Dundee are hunting for temporary accommodation, after the Mill o’ Mains pavilion burnt down.
Fire crews were called to Hebrides Drive around 8.20pm, but the building couldn't be saved.
More than 40 kids were due there this morning for breakfast at Dundee Bairns Food and Fun - a project supported by our charity Cash for Kids.
That's now not an option – so they’ve gathered in the park, with hundreds turning out.
Mill o’ Mains Pavilion Chairperson Yvonne Mullen spoke about the fire:
"It's totally ripped the heart out of the community. That'll just get worse as time goes on, people will start to miss the centre, all the groups will miss it - it's totally devastating.
"And the amount of equipment in there is horrendous - just, the loss of it all."
"This is a huge loss to the Mill O' Mains community. If anybody needed anything they came along there, and we helped them all we could. The kids are going to be devastated."
Dundee City Council says it's assessing the situation.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway
