Students at Dundee and Angus College are will return to classes today - following a cyber-attack last week.

Lessons are back on today after they were cancelled for three days following the breach last Friday.

An external investigation into a hack on the IT systems at the institution will get under way in a couple of weeks.

Principal of the College Grant Ritchie told Tay News:

"We don't think there's been any great breach of data and not a lot of data has been lost or stolen, it's more about stopping you working.

"We've managed to find all our central data, all our student records system, we've got 3,000 applications for next year, all out financial records system. They're all fine."

"There is some work that students have done that was ready for assessment which may have been lost.

"The SQA have protocols for dealing with that, for example the High School fires in Fife, these things happen and assessment materials can get lost."

"An attack like this can happen to any organisation and the feedback we have had from experts is that we have been unfortunate.

"It has taken a significant effort for us to get to the position where we can reopen to students, however we are aware that there may be initial challenges when students return and we will require ongoing support and patience as we get back to normal."
