City Square will host Dundee's first Hogmanay party in 20 years
Tay FM and Tay 2 are the official partners of the two-day event which will be headlined by award-winning band Squeeze.
Dundee will be celebrating Hogmanay in style this year with a two-day event in the City Square.
The party in the city centre will kick-off on Monday 30th December.
Award-winning band Squeeze are the first, of four big acts, to be announced and will be headlining that day with around 4,000 people expected to be in attendance.
The band enjoyed a string of hits between 1977 and 1982 - Glen Tilbrook from the group said: “I always love coming to Scotland. Being part of this celebration is an honour.”
His bandmate Chris Difford added: “I love playing in Dundee, it’s such a young vibrant city. I will be wearing mittens on stage I’m sure.”
The celebrations continue the following day with family-friendly entertainment and music before the bells on Hogmanay.
Jill Gibson from Dundee-based GMC Ventures, who are organising the event, said: “It’s something I have always wanted to bring to Dundee.
"I always go everywhere else, Glasgow, Edinburgh, on Hogmanay because nothing usually happens in Dundee.
“All I used to see in Dundee on Hogmanay was a poor seagull flying over the city square, nothing else going on, buses going off early and restaurants shutting.
“It’s like a ghost town and I think that’s wrong.
“My dad John and I started planning for this for last year’s Hogmanay but it was too soon and we decided it would be better to take some time and do it properly,” she said.
It’ll be the first New Year party in the city square for the 20 years since the Millennium celebrations.
Jill added: “So we have a brilliant line-up, there are four big acts which we will be announcing over the summer, starting with Squeeze on Monday, December 30.
“It’s really exciting and we’re all really happy that it’s finally going to happen and Dundee will have something to really celebrate bringing the New Year in.”
Radio Tay has also been announced as an Official Partner for the Hogmanay celebrations and Content Controller John Milne is delighted: “It is brilliant news that the Dundee Hogmanay event is returning to City Square after a two decade absence.
“It is such an exciting time for the city, and it feels like the perfect time to bring the event back and ring in the bells in style.
"Tay FM & Tay 2 are proud to be Official Partners for Dundee Hogmanay 2019 and we look forward to supporting what we are sure will be a world class event."
