Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Bologna's Scottish defender Aaron Hickey.

The 19-year old made the move to Italy last summer after impressing for Hearts in the Premiership.

He made 12 appearances in all competitions but had his season cut short following a shoulder injury.

The full-back could be back in Scottish football soon with the Scottish Sun reporting the Parkhead side have tabled a bid of £3.5million.

New boss Ange Postecoglou needs to move quickly to strengthen his squad with their first competitive match just three weeks away.

The teenager was quizzed on a move to Celtic recently, and said: “I’m fully aware that there has been interest.

“I can see it all — but I have just got to keep my head down and keep my focus on Bologna.”

Hickey could become Celtic's second signing of the window after they brought in Osaze Urhoghide from Sheffield Wednesday.

The 21-year old, who can play at centre-back or right-back, signed a four-year deal last week.

Striker Leigh Griffiths also extended his deal by a year.
