Investigation launched after stolen car used in Dundee and Angus break-ins
A grey Mitsubishi Shogun was stolen from the Lunan area and then used in a series of attempted burglaries over the weekend
An investigation's being launched following a series of housebreakings across Dundee and Angus.
On Friday night, a grey Mitsubishi Shogun (reg. SB05 YXA) was stolen from the Lunan area of Angus, and was then used in a series of break-ins in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police believe the car was taken over night between Friday, 17th June, and Saturday, 18 June.
Officers say their inquiries so far have established that the Mitsubishi was used in a series of break-ins and attempted break-ins that took place in the early hours of Monday 20th.
The first incident occurred around 2.45am when there was an attempted break-in at a unit in West Pitkerro Industrial Estate, Dundee.
Around 3.25am there was an attempted break-in at a premises on Dundee Street in Carnoustie.
Shortly after, at around 3.30am there was another attempted break-in at a premises on Station Road, Carnoustie, and around 3.50am officers received report of a theft by housebreaking at a premises on Ravensby Park Gardens, Carnoustie.
A further attempted break-in was reported at a premises on Ferry Road in Monifieth around 3.55am and officers received reports of a break-in at a premises on King Street in Broughty Ferry around 4.15am.
The Mitsubishi was also used in the theft of an off-road buggy from a farm in Newport-on-Tay that was traced a short time later in Dundee on Sunday, 19th June.
Sergeant Linsey Burnett, of Angus Community Investigation Unit, said: “It’s clear the intention of these individuals was to target a number of premises in a short period of time causing significant damage in the process.
"There has been no consideration to the owners of these businesses and properties and the impact these crimes will have on the people involved.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the areas in the early hours of Monday morning who may have witnessed something. I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw the Mitsubishi Shogun described either before or after these incidents.
"Also, anyone with dash cam footage who was in the area around the time of the incidents is urged to contact police as you may have captured footage that could assist with our investigation.”
