Emergency services and the bomb squad have been called to Montrose after a car went up in flames.

They’ve been at Bridge Street since 7:00am on Friday and Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams are examining an item which has been found.

The road remains closed and the public are being told to avoid the area.

Karen Horsburgh lives on Bridge Street and she's one of the residents affected: "Just after 7 o'clock this morning there was a loud bang went off in Bridge Street in Montrose.

"Shortly after that when we went out we were met by policeman who was coming down the street shining a torch under everybody’s car to see what was what.

"He then said it was a suspicious incident and that it was two canisters that had been taped together and exploded under somebody’s car.

"The street's still closed - how long it will be closed for I don't know.

"The police also asked if we'd seen anything suspicious or seen anything walking down the street, but unfortunately we didn't see anything.
